a fellow student in my clinical group admitted to me and several others that she gave medication through an iv push with her nurse. this doesn't sound like an issue, but we are semester one students. we have yet to cover iv fluids (that's next week) and iv medications (that's next semester). all we are able to do regarding medications at this level is give po and injections. usually we have a lecture, practice it in lab then perform it with our instructor before we can do it with our nurses. it seems to me that she ignored the rules and did something she shouldn't have done.
part of me really wants to tell my instructor because what the student did unsafe and wrong. but the other part me wants to just forget about it.
what would you do??

was it under the supervision of the clinical instructor or the staff rn. you could tell and see what happens. is it possible that the nurse offered her the opportunity to do this and she just didn't know she is not allowed? is it possible she is lying in order to make herself look "better"? i personally think if you tell she might just deny it, but if she is just blatantly disregarding the rules then this does need to be addressed.
if she did it under the supervision of the rn i doubt it was unsafe, but if it is against the rules than it was definitely wrong.
It was under the supervision of the staff RN her patient had. I think the nurse asked her if she wanted to do it and she didn't deny it like she should have..
I think she will deny it too..

Eh, worry about yourself. If there is one thing I've learned in 3 semesters, is worry about yourself and not what your classmates are doing. They will call attention to themselves in due time.
