With the current economy being such a wreck, there are a lot of hospitals across the U.S. that have put a freeze on hiring new nurses and a lot of new nurses are having a hard time finding jobs. With that being said, if you had the option of starting the nursing program in July 2009 or Jan. 2010, which semester would you choose. I was thinking that maybe by 2010 the economy would have picked up and hospitals will have resume hiring of new nurses, but I don't know, please help!!! :heartbeat

Delaying your entrance to nursing school based upon speculation about the economy is not advisable. You have no way of knowing ahead of time that the employer you find will have a position open at the later time after not having one available at the earlier date. Better to get the license as soon as possible to give yourself that much more time to seek employment with license in hand.

Caliotter3, amen to that, you're right it would be crazy of me to wait and get my nursing degree based on the economy. I just hope that everything works out where I can find employment. Thanks! :heartbeat

If you are doing a regular Associates program it will take you 2 years to complete. There is no way to know how the economy will be in 2 years from now, my guess is it will be back up again. But regardless, even if it were bad, at least you would have your degree and could keep trying to get a job.
