I have a question for everyone. I think I already know the answer, but I want to get your thoughts. I am graduating May 9. YAY! I work at a teaching hospital in the Neonatal ICU as a nurse extern and I like working there. However, my real desire is to work in Pediatric Oncology. At my hospital we had a pediatric oncology doctor but he resigned/fired whatever a few weeks ago so now we are having to send our oncology patients to Atlanta. I applied for a NICU position and I have had my interview, but I want know if I got the job for a few weeks. Am I making a mistake if I take the job in the NICU or should I apply for a peds oncology position in Atlanta or a general peds position at the hospital I work at so I can at least have peds experience? If I went to Atlanta I would have to move about 2 hours away.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

i don't have any advise for you ,but working in pedi oncology takes a special person. there is no way i would last through one shift. good luck to you...:bowingpur

It wouldn't hurt to apply to the hospital in Atlanta if you feel that is your true calling. If you get the NICU position first, go ahead and accept it as a back up plan. If you get the job in Atlanta and have already accepted the NICU position, go ahead and politely inform the NICU that you have made a very tough decision to accept a job in Atlanta and thank them for the job offer. Hopefully you will get to make a final decision before going through your new grad orientation. Good luck!!
