What was your first day at work as a nurse like? I'm assuming most of you starting working at a hospital? What was your starting salary, did you make mistakes, were you nervous, how did you have to do report at the end of shift (verbal, recorded?), were your co-workers welcoming and helpful, did you like where you worked, etc. Please give as much information as you can, I would love to hear about your experience on your first day of work as an RN :) BTW, I'm currently a student.
My first day as a real nurse was in a rural Montana hospital. I made a whopping $11.00/hr. Of course that was in 1992. The hospital had one nurse per shift. Sounds scary but I had 3 of the most competent, caring professional mentors anyone could ever have had. Report was verbal. It was the BEST first day anyone could experience.

True, BUT my understanding has always been that recorded report is OK as long as the preceding shift/nurse remain around for a bit after report to answer any questions. We were never allowed to leave until after the following shift came out of the report room and onto the floor.
I'm veering off topic though. :)
