What specialty of Nursing is most needed in Travel nursing

Published

Which area/arena/specialty of Nursing is most needed in the Travel Nurse or Agency Nursing Industry? Is L/D or PP needed often? What is most needed?

I was thinking of doing travel nursing sometime but I need to know what specialty or experience is needed to do so.

Thanks

Adria

Med/Surg...at least that's what I've been hearing. Up here in the northeast it's rare (but not unheard of!!!) to have OR, ER or L&D travel nurses. The local hospital here hasn't had a travel L&D nurse in six years, the OR has had 1 this past year and the ER had 2...but Med/Surg always has about 10, but 6 or 7 of them work only nights.

Specializes in med-surg/ telemetry/PEDS.

I see a TON of Labor and Delivery ads with travel companies.

Specializes in Perinatal, Education.

Every L&D unit I've been on here in Southern California has had at least one traveler. We have several on nights and days at the moment!

There are alot of L&D and PP offerings, especially in California. Some areas of the country the need is not as great. ICU and NICU are also areas that have a great deal of postings. Any place in particular you're looking to travel?
