What school do you suggest in Victoria?

Published

Hi,

my fiance is about to enrol in a bridge program for registration in Victoria.

these are the accredited schools for the bridge program. Kindly help us pick the best choice and most practical choice since this is a big financial investment for us.

Deakin university

La Trobe University

ETEA

University of Ballarat

kindly give your insights. Thank you very much for your time.

:wink2::bow:

I am not an overseas trained nurse so I cannot have experienced any bridging course at these universities.

It is the general opinion of all nurses here, that it does not matter what university you go to, as long as you get the piece of paper at the end and then what you make of it. Nurses are not in great abundance so you could train at the university of timbuctoo and be qualified to the nurses boards criteria and registered with the nurses board, that is what counts and all universities in Australia must comply with their respective nurses boards curriculum requirements.

So, in my opinion and in other nurses I know opinions it does not matter what uni you attend. (nursing 35 years)

My only knowledge I can partake to you about these universities are that they are in Victoria so therefore they are the best (not biased at all) :yeah:

Latrobe, well recognised, situated in the northern suburbs about 10k from the city, easy to get to by public transport.

Deakin, another well recognised uni for nursing, further out in eastern suburbs about I think 20ks from city, has tram service from city.

Ballarat is out in the country about 1.5 hours by train, west of Melbourne

and the other 'ETEA' have no idea what these letters represent, no university in Victoria would fit in with this anagram.

best of luck,

thank you very much.

oh here's the etea meaning i got from their website [color=#578b44]education training & employment australia.

Hi Chabeli,

I guess we're in the same boat. I'm scouting around for institutions that offer the bridging program too at the lowest prices and/or shortest period of time. Does your fiance have work experience? If he does, WA is the best choice. But 1-2 years experience needed to get to the cheaper institutions.

Please post if you have made any progress, found any school in Victoria or elsewhere. Would really appreciate it.

Thanks! Good luck to us. :wink2:

Hi Sandra,

that's good...how long did you have to wait for the letter from the NBV? I am still waiting for mine but only because i had to do some revisions to the form and my passport was incorrectly certified. I am jus waiting for the assessment results now..Hopefully within the next 2 weeks.

I've decided to enroll in Deakin University for the January 2010 intake as i think i can no longer make it to the ETEA October 2009 intake.

I am a third year Deakin nursing student and have been very happy with Deakin. It has a good reputation and its location is also good. Burwood is a nice part of Melbourne, very suburban, and a tram runs out the front into the city if you need to get public transport.

Good luck with your studies.

Wow! that's nice to hear ... are the rooms around affordable? i will need a place to stay near the school.

Sorry, have no idea about rents. But I suggest you try either of these 2 websites - theage.com.au or heraldsun.com.au and look for a link to real estate and rentals. These are our 2 daily Melbourne newspapers. They will also give you a feel for life in Melbourne.

My papers from NBV took almost 6 months as I too needed to send some papers again...How did u go about with the admission to Deakens...Whom did u contact there,Could u give me the name and # of the person to be contacted..May be will meet somewhere soon..

all the info you will need is in their website deakin.edu.au/international. Or in their contact us section, you can call that number. I called them once. You will see their the course information and details ... like it will run for 14 weeks... and the requirements. I also emailed them and they replied within 2 business days... Oh i hope my papers were all good already...
