I applied for a position as a school nurse and have an interview. I know it's salaried, but what do nurses do when kids are out for break? Do they just not get paid? And summertime....what do you do? Do you just work registry or homehealth or what?

You will likely have the option of spreading your annual pay over 12 months or 9 months. If your school is traditional 9-months and you opt for the 9 month pay option, you can always work during summer school if your school system offers it.

Depends on what school district you work for. Some school nurses get paid even during holiday and summer breaks. Some school districts request that you have payroll set a side a portion of your check during the school year to cover you during the summer or you can do agency work.

I get paid salary spread out over 12 months. During the summer, I take some classes to keep up to date, volunteer for a couple weeks at our church camp, and enjoy my time off. You usually get paid less as a school nurse than a hospital nurse, but summers are one of the BIG perks!
