What is "flex time"?

Published

I've seen it mentioned in articles on great places to work. What the heck is it??

Flex time is when you get an oppourtinity to choose your own hours. I have flex time where I work and can come in during regular hours or come in and work during the middle of the night.

There ARE some things I have to be at work for (meetings etc...)

and I schedule my time to attend those.

Flex hours are the way to go in nursing, especially because a nurse gets to make up their own work schedule to fit his/her family life, etc. This is the best way to go......also working agency.......another good alternative to working a regular schedule.

Hmmm.... You guys just opened a whole new world to me! Now if I could find this, "Flex Time " animal in my neck of the woods....

Sometimes flex time means "core hours" -- hours when you MUST be at work (for example, 10-2). You work your allotted time whenever, but you are there for your core hours.

Sometimes flex time means hours you go over on one day are hours you can take off on another day (usually this is salaried employees).

I'm sure there are other versions of flex time, but these are the two I know of. Yes, it is wonderful! Allows you time to take care of things that can only be done during business hours.
