You've passed your NCLEX. You've maintained your nursing license over the last couple of years. You've invested in the latest nursing literature. You've networked and socialized with other nurses. You've worked in a variety of different areas of nursing i.e. home health, ICU, Med/Surg,Labor and Delivery, etc. Your heart says " I love being a registered nurse, I can't see myself having another career. Definitely this is for me." However, you are not able to convince others of this and are approached and steered daily to do something else with your life because in their eyes you have no clue what you are doing and are an eyesore to the profession. What would it take for you to give up on your nursing career? Would you feel ashamed for being an adult who doesn't easily believe that what others want for you is best? Would you feel as if you've wasted your time? What professional career could/would you explore that wouldn't leave you with unequal pay or unequal autonomy?

I'd finish up my Macc (accounting) and resume my goal of conquering the corp world and schmoozing with big wigs.
I'm a closet social-climber.
*laugh*
Or, I'd go back to the military. It's my crutch (well, that and the hospital).
I'll def stick with nursing until I can't nurse anymore. *laugh*
...but, folks change careers all the time.
*shrug*
In fact, one of our my old friend/coworkers (a radiologist) was talking about becoming a used car salesman.
That man was so silly....
