What position should I choose family clinic or allergy clinic?

Published

I have been offered a position at a family clinic (serving adults and pediatrics) for $20.00 hr and I have a second interview with doctors of a allergy clinic. I am sure that they will offer me the position too. I just want to make the right decision. This will actually be my first full-time job as an LVN. Can anyone give me some information and/or advice about both types of clinics? They both have great benefits as well and similar hours, 8 to 5pm. I feel that I can work within any type of clinical environment.

I am very fond of primary care. I LOVE working with kids and their families. I am passionate about prevantative care so I am very interested in this. Allergy can be very rewarding as well. Have you had any experience with either of these? Just make sure you know about any "seasonal" hour obligations. Flu season may require extra shifts in both depts. (for flu shot admin).

I am an allergy nurse. I like it, but being mostly my only "nursing" experience it might be hard to get out of. I would go for primary care as you will get more variety of experience.

Definitely family care for the plethora of experience you will get with both adults and children. It's very fast paced and busy work, but rewarding and the time flies. Good luck to you!

Clinic work will get you a ton of different experiences. And $20 an hour is awesome!

Although the allergy clinic sounds good too, it would limit what you are doing.

Best wishes!

I worked inpatient Pedi/Adolescent pulmonary and then moved on to an allergy clinic. While the allergy clinic was a very nice, low-stress job... it was limiting. It sounds like you are at the starting end of your career. I would pick anything Primary Care.

I want to thank you all for your comments, they have been very helpful! I have decided to go with the family clinic. I have worked with children ages 9 to 16 in a summer camp. I enjoyed it a lot. I also have worked as an immunization/wellness nurse for 8 months. I enjoyed that as well, it was young adults and the elderly. I truly feel that this family clinic is the place where I belong and I will gain the most experience. Thanks again everyone
