What nursing shortage?

As a new grad looking for positions in both CA and MA I am finding that

new grad nursing positions are VERY hard to come by. Some of my classmates

have gone to interviews were the employer is interviewing 70 people for two positions. I went to a career fair a few weeks ago with people lined out the

door for 6 positions. All of my classmates are asking "what nursing shortage?"

I have to say that I feel mislead by my school and the media into thinking that

there were so many nursing jobs out there. Is anyone else experiencing this?

What part of the country are you living in? At this point I am having to expand my career search to hundreds of miles from home just to find a position as new grad.

I got 2 offers today? When it rains it pours...who knows...whether there is really a shortage or HR is really behind? Anyway...I just called the Directors directly...and made progress faster.

Specializes in ED, Pedi Vasc access, Paramedic serving 6 towns.

I had no problem getting hired in MA, thankfully, but I also come with more experience than most new grads as I have 10 years of EMS experience.

I was the shift supervisor for nursing. Past two jobs. I started as a charge nurse in each. I just can't get a job. I don't know what to do.

I'm in LA and there are lots of jobs for new grads. I work on a medsurg unit where there is a high turnover rate. We have new grads come and stay for 1 year to get experience and then leave. We are always understaffed. There are definately jobs and I would have to agree that there is a definate problem in the hiring process. Some hospitals simply take a lot of time to get through the paperwork and or loose your application. It can be frustrating.
