I think when LEARNING that RN is good. However, the articles are not peer-reviewed, so you will not get scientific articles. Time for that later. They have good pictures and lots of different topics which is good for students.
AJN and ANA both are peer-reviewed and have excellent articles, but you have to sift thru the policital bias.
In addition to Nursing 2009, I also get "Nursing made Incredibly Easy." Lots of good pictures/charts. Very good for someone like me who has been away from the bedside for a while... (and I think new grads...)
Don't forget about this website while in school.... a great resource.
BTW (from an old RN): Once you graduate.... Please get at least 1 year of hospital adult med/surg (Medical/Surgical) nursing under your belt before getting specialized!! Do others agree?
Best of Luck in Nursing School!
The only one I find worth the money is "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy." It's an entertaining read if you like the medical info. I get very bored by the nursing politics in most others. Most of the Nursing magazines offer a free trial ssue - try each and keep only the one you really like - you will have plenty to read in school. Good luck.
one more thing -- i never liked ajn... (way too dry). (nor did i like rn...)
you are going to be way to busy in nursing school to ever read a nursing journal!!! if you need additional information for a paper/project/care plan, go on-line or go to the library. you'll have plenty of time once you graduate. i actually rarely read my journals, and i'm an old rn (i know, i shouldn't admit this...)

I am about to start a nursing program but have no idea what specialty I'll end up in. Can anyone recommend a magazine/periodical I should subscribe to that will help me learn the most about nursing? Thanks.
