Hi
Sad to say this isn't one of the success stories that says yay! I passed NCLEX I'm just writing down my experience so maybe someone can read it and maybe give an advice or enlightenment, because I feel like I'm losing track, making everybody disspointed with this but another failure. Actually this last May 10th was my another attempt to defeat the NCLEX-RN, but failed for the second time. I don't know what to do, I'm not a dummy I think, I answered all of Kaplan's Qbank, Question Trainers, mostly on my 60s, even the 3 sample questions. I said to myself, maybe, its time, I felt confident and decided to go with the date as planned.
When I walked in into the testing center, I felt confident, and when I got out i still felt confident. But you know what, I failed. You wanna know how I know?? Well, here is a little story. My first test stopped at 232 questions, my recent test shut off of 171, so I thought, hmmm, maybe, the test wasn't so bad, because, I was familiar to most of the questions, I really felt that I was strong on Management, i don't know, maybe I just felt that. I said, 171 maybe a passing number. and then there is trick at pearsonvue where you get to check whether you passed or failed and i've read hundreds of forums about it being 98% accurate. I know its accurate because the last time I checked it, it gave me the credit card page allowing me to pay again for the test, so that means I failed, because it was asking me that I can register again for a new test. if I passed It would've showed a good pop up that says, you can't register at this time, contact your board of Nursing for more information.
So after the test I went online to see if I got the pop up, I did get the pop up, but it was too soon for me to that, so that didn't mean anything, but for a second there, I was jumping for joy hopeful that that pop up wont change, that it'll just stay as it is... but then, when we got home, i checked again, and the trick died on me. It led me again to the credit card page, and I cant take this anymore, I cried, and just stayed in my bed, and didn't feel like eating. Its been 3 days, and I just feel like I'm such a big loser. Sorry that I have to rant here, but I just don't know where to start. I don't have the energy to go through another failure, if im going to take the test again, I wanna do this right, i want to know what I did wrong, and I can't see what I did to fail for the second time, I hope, if you're not too busy, you'll take the time to maybe reply, I understand that you are busy and all, I know my case is not that unusual, but if you can help, I'll really appreciate it so much... sooooooooooooooo mmuuuuuuuuuch. Thank you. :)
You need to attack the questions differently. Look for the killer answers and keywords. A Review course would be helpful. My college did the hurst. and I used saunders...book. Don't give up. Remember you didn't come to the board to go home empty handed...you are going there to show them what you know. Willing to help here.
Hi,
I'm posting the same thing that I posted on another thread for you, as I feel it will also help you. First, pray and claim now that you have ALREADY passed NCLEX.
The ONLY review and book that I used was the Kaplan Review Course. I had no other books or resources, besides this and what I learned in nursing school...
It's about a week long, and it costs a bit, but it's so worth it and you'll make the money back in no time. It gave us tips and tricks on how to approach each question and what to think about (things like physical trumps psychosocial, any drainage over 200ml in 2hrs is considered bad, meds ending in -ol are beta blockers, etc.). It also talks about the "NCLEX" hospital, and the "NCLEX" world, which obviously is completely different from real world practice. For example, we may auscultate for placement of an NG tube in clinicals, but in the "NCLEX" world, and with any question NCLEX gives you with that answer choice, you NEVER DO THAT (so u eliminate that choice)!!! (You instead confirm placement by pH testing or x-ray). They also had good videos from a lady who helps you to narrow it down using these techniques and others, and thus, pick the 'best answer'.
From what I've been reading, apparently NCLEX makes it so that you can automatically and easily eliminate 2 choices (for satas and multi-choice ?s only). If you can get that strategy on identifying those two answers that are completely out of the ballpark, then your changes of getting the ? right, of course, increases. And, Kaplan offers an option where if you don't pass using their stuff, you get your money back.
It worked for me, and so far, EVERYONE in our nursing school has passed on their first try. Our SON made it mandatory that we did this course. I graduated last month, and took it two days ago.
I have already prayed for you and everyone else who is retaking on this site. You WILL pass!
Hi BSNRN15,
I just read your thread and wondering your update thus far? I just took my nclex for the 3rd time a month ago and failed again. I'm just wondering how you're tackling the exam this time around.
I did everything: kaplan, hurst, saunders, pda, cram exam, feuer... dont know what i'm doing wrong.
My friends analyzed what how I was testing, and they said that I overthink it. I dont know how to tackle the question.
Thanks and hope you hear from you soon. We will get over this bump in the road... it's just a big bump! gah.

Hi Future nurse,
Be positive and move on. Things happen for a reason. Your time will come and you will pass this examination. I used saunders and attended the NCLEX review class in Sunnyvale CA. I think they have free exam preparation seminar try to inquire Ascendreviewinstitute Nclex Nursing Review on facebook they have website too you can search it in google.
Good Luck!
