What Not to do to another Nurse.......

I just gotta share this one.........

I had to see another Nurse's patient over the weekend for IV antibiotics who was supposed to have a PICC. It's not a geographical area that I usually cover so it was a 45 minute drive for me. I had not received report from the other Nurse and couldn't reach her when attempted to call her. I get to the patients house on Saturday and he has no line. The Primary nurse not only didn't report that there was no PICC to the supervisor she had also d/c'd the INT on Friday because it had been 72 hours since it was placed in the hospital. I'm at the patients house with two bags to run, no line to access and no supplies. Not to mention that it had been a couple of years since I had to start a line on someone. I've never been so furious:trout: with another Nurse. I had to drive back to my office to get what I needed then another 45 minutes back to his house. Thank God I was successful the first try and everything went fine after that. I didn't even bother calling her again. I reported her to my supervisor. I did, however, leave her plenty of supplies in case she had to restart it on Monday. No need to put the patient through that again. Poor guy...he thought I knew before I got there.

That's really bad. Congratulations on getting the IV. I bet the other nurse knew she couldn't get it and was embarrassed to let anyone know the truth so just avoided it by not reporting. So wrong, so wrong! Know that you're the better nurse and wouldn't do something like that to another colleague not even her. What goes around comes around. I believe that.

Ugh I can't stand when nurses do stuff like that! I would have been so mad she would have heard my mouth first thing Monday morning.

All that driving! Yikes.

I would be so aggravated, I would consider taking a mental health day, if not for myself, then for my poor, poor, mistreated car. It doesn't take much effort to insure that anticipated supplies are present in the home. That other nurse was definitely not being thoughtful.

just venting here......my weekend to work/call i understand that, but just got a call from the DON "i need you to do a recert that is up tomorrow (sunday)" now i feel that is a dump on, get the lazy nurse who missed it, but we can't say that, we are just expected to do as we are asked,,,i will do it , of course,,,,but not sure i will be able to keep quiet come monday!!!!
