Hello,
What is a nice duty station for an ICU nurse? I'm hoping for a nice transition from civilian to military, if possible. Any suggestions?
Thank you

The question is what do you consider nice? There are many different duty locations for all the services. If you are expecting a high level ICU to work in they are limited in the military, most are lower level ICU's.

I have no idea what branch of the service you are looking at. I can only speak for the Air Force.
Yes, your lower acuity ICUs are at places JBER (AK), Eglin (FL), Langley (VA), Nellis (NV), Lakenheath (England).
Your level 1 trauma center is SAMMC (TX).
Travis (CA) and Walter Reed (DC) are somewhere in between.
I think Travis has a decent acuity, is in a good area, and avoids the bureaucracy of tri-service locations like SAMMC and Walter Reed.
Thank you. This helps a lot. I was inquiring on bases in the AF. What is CSTARS? How is it different from other clinics?
CSTARS is like a one-week or so pre-deployment training at a civilian trauma center. It's not an assignment.
