Best first duty station for a brand new Navy nurse?

Published

Hi, I am graduating with my BSN in May '17 and SO excited to be direct commissioning into the Navy as a new nurse (I'm in a scholarship deal with the Navy). I just got notice that I have about 10 days to submit my DPS. I have had the chance to visit and personally tour and speak to nurses at Portsmouth and Walter Reed, but I still have questions. My list right now in priority is Portsmouth, JAX, San Diego. Does anyone have experience at any of these places or have insight into what the best choice out of these 3 would be (rhetorically speaking if I could "for sure" choose) for a new nurse with no military experience? Including insight into the residency programs...I know Portsmouth's sounded really good but I don't have any info on JAX or SD's programs. Thank you!!

Hey Maggie! I'm also graduating in 2017, in the Nurse Candidate Program! I've only ever been to JAX before for my interviews. I don't know much about it though, except it was a large hospital and the base itself is huge and has a lot to offer! Please, tell me what you liked about Walter Reed and Portsmouth!

Hey! I just typed a long thing haha but I'd rather email it you! I was trying to figure out how to private message you on here but idk how! is there an email you can send me?

It doesn't let us private message apparently if we haven't posted a lot (I haven't either)--so I'll just give you a very old embarrassing email on this comment and then once you email me, I'll email back with one I actually use often! Haha thanks for reaching out! [email protected]

No problem! Sent!
