what are some things at work, that you always make sure that you do, and never go through a short cut? whether it's a routine order of perfoming a task, checking the rights 3 times before a med pass, checking the charts at a certain time and in a certain order, or a method that you use to ensure that you don't forget to give a medication or check a lab result at a certain time?

one other thing...if there is a task that i was simply not able to accomplish during my shift, i let the oncoming nurse know about it, rather than leave it for them to find out as a surprise later in the shift once i've left :D

Last night I realized I do the same thing every night before I clock in. I put all my stuff away, sit down and begin to meticulously wipe off all my supplies (hemostat, cell phone, badge, watch, scissors, and stethoscope)with alcohol swabs and completely zone out. It's actually kind of therapeutic to just mindlessly clean those things and prepare myself for my shift.

Wow, I'm lame.

If only I could find cleaning my house and doing the laundry on the same level of therapeutic-ness.
