I'm thinking of joining the army nurse corps and I would like to know my options. Does anyone know what the minimum active duty signup requirement is with no reserve requirement?

Minimum is 3 years but they offer a bonus, it was 5K but may be more, for an additional year. Prepare to be deployed for a year to Iraq or Afghanistan. The Army deploys for a year or more however the Air Force deploys for 3 months of so. Something to consider. How long have you been a nurse? Army nursing has its pros and cons. Just really consider your options through all branchces of service.

You might want to consider airforce rather than army. I was an army soldier, and trust me airforce life is better!

i believe minimum is still 3 years. if you don't want to deploy consider public health service. a great deal, depending on how much flexibility you have as far as moving to a new location. if you want to deploy for a year or more (you will earn tax-free pay and make lifelong friendships) then go army. i don't remember if you said, are you a nurse already or a student?

I am waiting to go to OBC in January. I was told that I would get a $10,000 sign on bonus after completing OBC and upon arrival to my first duty station. Is this true or was I being fed a line of bull.

I have not signed anything yet. Was to go to OBC next month, but I will not have my BSN diploma in my hand until October and I really wanted to graduate with my class.

military girl: i didn't get a bonus when i joined, but i was ROTC and got all of my college paid for, not a bad deal there. assuming you are a direct commission, there is a bonus but i'm not sure how much. a rule that will serve you well in the army is to get any and all promises put in writing. start with this one. by the way, OBC is great, have fun!

As long as you have it in writing, all is good. If by chance they try and pull a fast one...a contract will put a stop to that. It is a legal binding contract.

they repaid approx 21k (after taxes) for 3 yrs active and 5 years irr (or

whatever)

I can take a specialty course if i want (i already have HM5 designator)
