What it means to be a professional nurse?

Hi everybody I am just trying to get a few different opinions on what it means to everyone what it means to be a professional nurse. Thanks for any help you might give.......;)

Specializes in ER, Infusion therapy, Oncology.

The dictionary defines a professional as "a person that conforms to the ethical or technical standards of a profession."

In nursing I think a professional is someone who has strong ethics, a willingness to serve and always put the patient first, and high standards of intellectual knowledge.:twocents:

Specializes in Med-Surg/Peds/O.R./Legal/cardiology.

Yeah, that...and usually a kick in the butt on a daily basis. Don't mean to sound negative, but it is quite challenging to be a nurse these days for many reasons.
