What does this mean?

Hi allnurses, I have completed all my prerequisites for nursing program included statistics. I had to take an entrance exam, the abe exam for basic reading and math. I placed in high adult for reading and low adult for math. I can't believe it! Low adult for math. The proctor said not to worry, the statistic class overrides exam but I feel so stupid! Has anyone else have this happen? And if so what did you do to brush up skills? Should I retake exam just for self? My ego is really bruised right now. I guess I just needed to share this....lots of laughs

When I first went back to school I took a placement exam and scored into algebra review. I took algebra in 8th grade! I felt bad but at the same time recognized I hadn't taken a math class in over a decade.

I used khan academy to brush up on my math skills and retook the placement exam a few months later. I placed into calculus.

Wow!! Calculus?! That is an amazing improvement. Good for you!! I took Statistics last summer. However, I haven't had a formal Algebra class for at least ten years and the placement test was all Algebra. I think a brush up on Algebra would be in order. I placed in pre Algebra. I will try Khan Academy.

I had a similar issue with my community college placement test. I ended up taking Beginner and Intermediate Algebra to brush up on my skills. Then I took Algebra (which is a requirement for Statistics at my school).

For the TEAS I had to look up some old grammar that I hadn't used in 2 decades. The test itself isn't too bad, but anything you haven't used in 20 years is going to need to be reviewed. It is very humbling looking up stuff that is being taught to 10 year olds, but ultimately I had fun with it. I got to relive my childhood learning grammar from school house rock!

Oh, that is too funny Zooey72! I remember that song. It is nice when we can make learning fun.

When I first went back to school, after being out of school 10+ years (graduated High School in 2000), I placed into a remedial math class. I was mortified, but it had just been so long. Now Its been 16 years since high school but from all the recent Math classes I've taken I'm way smarter than a 5th grader! Don't sweat it.
