What does it mean??!!

I'm a little frustrated these days with hospitals hiring processes!!!!

I was called this morning to schedule an interview with the unit manager of a telemetry floor. My interview is scheduled for next week and she even sent me a confirmation e-mail with directions to the hospital and everything.

At the same time they updated the status of the application online and it went from active to filled. What does it mean??? :uhoh3:

Why did they even schedule an interview if they've already filled the position. I heard that sometime hospital do this because they have to interview people for legal reasons even if they have already hired someone. Is it true???

I'm getting really frustrated with these games, I would go to the interview anyway (it's a 2 hour drive from where I live) just to practice my interview skills I guess :)

It's way too hard to get a job!!!!!

Just a quick update to say that I was offered the job and I accepted it!!!!:)

I'm obviously really happy because telemetry is where I wanted to start my career since I'd like to be a cardiac nurse eventually.

I'm nervous because I know it's gonna be really challenging, when I toured the unit I noticed that it's a very busy floor. The hospital changed ownership back in February so that's a little concerning, I know the laid off several people back then so I hope that won't be an issue in the future.

This week I started working in a long term acute hospital and even if it's great experience, I know that it's not exactly the kind of experience I need for my long term career goals. It's gonna be tough to tell them that I got another job. They've been very nice to me and they were the only place giving me a chance as a new grad.

What should I expect working on a telemtry floor?

Yay, congratulations! Busy is good! Makes the day go faster, and you'll learn SO much and hone your multi-tasking skills.

Hey Daniela, Congratulations! I'm so excited for you! I've read a few of your posts and I'm a student at ECC now, so I am so happy to hear that you finally, lol, found a job!! Are you going to relocate? Did you precept on a tele floor in school? Can you tell me how preceptorships are chosen? If there is a secret to getting what you want at ECC, I want to start working on it now!

Congrats again! It really is an accomplishment in this job market!

Hi,

Thanks!!!! I'm really happy and excited about the job, I'm going in tomorrow to sing paperwork and do the TB test and physical.

The hospital is in San Diego and I live in Los Angeles but I won't relocate. It's close enough to just spend 2 days there and the rest of my days off here where I have all my family and friends. I'll be working nights so I'll end up spending only two nights in San Diego and driving home at the end of my third night. Not ideal but in this job market you have to take what you can get!!!! I was ready to move to Nebraska (where I got a job offer) so San Diego it's definetely better and more convenient :D

As far as the preceptorship goes, I did mine at Little Company on the medical cardiology floor. But you can't really chose, they just give you whatever it's available. You can tell me what you would prefer but there's no guarantee. And if some of your classmates already work in the hospital, they usually get to chose first.

But it's ok, wherever you end up doing your preceptorship it will be a great learning experience because you'll learn how to be a nurse, manage your time and prioritize. Trust me, clinicals don't really prepare you to be a nurse!!!!!

What semester are you in now?

Hello Daniela,

Congratulations on your job! It must feel so rewarding to land a job in a department you love!

I am a new grad living in San Diego, just applied to Alvarado among all the other hospitals here and other locations throughout California. I read that you also applied to Nebraska...did you obtain a Nebraska license before you applied? I've been searching for jobs for about 5 months now in California and am seriously considering moving out of state. Any information you have will be greatly appreciated. And, thank you for all your posts, I wish I had found this site months ago. It's great to have such a wonderful community of nurses out there.
