What do you love most about your floor/specialty?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am in my last semester of school and was wondering what you love most about the area of nursing you work in? If you can't stand where are you working then where do you want to work?

Thanks!

Laura

Wow,

I'm so glad so many of you love your jobs! Some of those areas you work in aren't even available anywhere near where I live now!

I just finished precepting on the surgical floor, and I really liked the work and the relationships the nurses have with each other is awesome.

The next rotation is Maternal/Child and I can't wait because that is what I planned on going into from the time I decided to go back to school for nursing! I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Got to see a beautiful little girl take her first steps down our hallway (: (inpatient peds heme/onc)

Specializes in Rehab, critical care.

I work in ICU, and I enjoy both the fast-paced high acuity running all night kind of nights, but I also enjoy the more regular steady nights where I can focus on both of my patients, be detail oriented, know everything I want to about their history, recent labs, so that I can plan ahead for their care. (as far as ensuring things are being done that need to be done for the patient, whether that's something that needs to be done now (i.e. electrolyte replacement or pan cultures/abx, etc) or the next day or two (social services consult, wound care). I enjoy the continuity of care, too, taking care of the same patients for 12 hours, though sometimes I am transferring my patient to the medical floor as soon as I get there only to get a new patient a few minutes later. I also enjoy the comfort that I am able to provide to the patients/families during their grieving process, or coping with a new loss (such as traumatic amputation, new trach, etc).

Specializes in ED.

I work in the VA system, as an ER nurse. I have the following list

-its home

-I'm a vet, and they are my brothers and sisters

-you really get to know these guys

-the benefits are awsome

-I really like having actual Police here unlike other ER's where there are only security officers

-there is usually good communication between the physicians and nurses

Specializes in Med Surg, Perinatal, Endoscopy, IVF Lab.

I've worked in Med/Surg float and I'm now in Perinatal Float. I loved Med Surg right out of school because you really learn how to be a nurse there. You learn time management and hone your skills. It's a great place to start and stay if you like it. I more have found what I don't like, then what I love. I ended up loving what I thought I would hate and hating what I thought I would love. Move around, get some experience, see what's out there. My current love is Pediatrics and NICU.
