What is the LNA training like?

I have a friend who just signed up for the LNA training and he asked me what was in it. I honestly had no clue as I got my LNA after completing Fundamentals and our first clinical rotation. He wants to become a nurse now but needs to have good employment before he starts that journey. He has college loans as he just graduated with graphic arts and printing technology degree and hates that.

I know this much:

Bedmaking

comfort measures

BP and other vitals

I&O

Reporting abnormals or even "something not right" feelings to RN

Showering & personal care

Feeding

transfers, how to use lifts

CPR, First aid stuff

But I feel like I am missing something can you all help fill in the blanks?

Thanks everyone!

Thats a good idea, i need to diversify my efforts to multiple schools...so i take it you don't think taking A+P I in a shorter semester would be an issue?

Nah, A&P is hard but just a lot of memorization really and no reason you can't start that now.

I remember doing the planes of the body, the muscle movements (knowing what is flexion, extension, etc.), memorizing the bones (had to number a paper and fill in ALL of them), Major muscles, and I know there was more but those are the ones that stick.

Maybe someone can add to this list? If you can get the book early, we used almost all of it so just start reading it so at least it will be familiar when you have to read it and there is lectures on it.

I broke the muscles down by area and memorized them that way. Easier to remember a grouping than a bunch alltogehter (think a phone #), and there are some mnemonics (is that spelled right?) that can help with some of those.

Also had to learn major systems, organs, etc. If there are more than one instructor that offers it, ask for feedback from the other students on which is best. I do this with ALL my classes that I can. Sometimes there is an awful instructor, or a really good teacher, etc.

You can do it. I took A&P over a short summer semester, like 12 weeks I think. Also took Chem this way.

Ughh.. im so not looking forward to A+P.

I will be starting LNA license classes in NH soon! Does anyone know the name of the textbook, so I can get a head start and read it before I start classes. I seem to do well reading first! Thanks for you reply. I will look forward to it.
