Hi,
What you like about Perioperative nursing? Hoping to get some real answers, for all of us other nurses interested in going into this specialty.....

I like that I only have one patient at a time and can fully concentrate on their needs without someone down the hall on the call bell every 5 minutes to pull their blankets up, change the TV channel, etc. Then there's the variety- working an off shift I get to see a little of each specialty except hearts (sometimes all in the same day!). Also that with the same crew working, we have great teamwork.

To me a better question would be - What's not to like about Perioperative Nursing?
I have worked in just about every phase of nursing, but when I got to the OR, I knew I had found my niche. There is a special relationship between co-workers in the OR. The "team" approach nurtures these relationships. There is a closer relationship between the OR staff and the surgeons.
The fact that you care for one patient at a time allows you to truly "advocate" for your patients. It is your responsibility to be the voice of your patient while they are under anesthesia.
I love the OR and wouldn't work anywhere else. :heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat
