Well- I wouldn't say that Temple is the middle of nowhere...it's about an hour from Austin and I believe it is the main hospital for the health plan which is the largest HMO in central Texas. Their patients come from all over the place. To answer your question it is the clinical site for the medical school at Texas A&M but I don't know much about the nursing program there. Sorry.
Do let us know if you find out anything.

No not just Cancer. It is a full service teaching Hospital. I will tell you they confirmed a very early diagnosis of Ca of Lung on my mother, that the oncologist in Houston at MD Anderson could not confirm and if we had waited on them my mother would not have survied 3 months. I have relatives in Texas and they would not go to any other hospital.
I've worked here since 1980...in several different areas of the hospital...it's known for cutting-edge technology...it was voted one of the 100 best hospitals in the US. lots of knowledegable, helpful staff to help you thru your internship...has a HMO that is part of the picture which has probably been the saving grace and kept us from going under when all the big MCR cuts were going down a few years ago....it is a level 1 trauma center for 7 counties..has a level 3 NICU...we don't send too many folks elsewhere, except maybe major burns and babies with bad heart defects...has a transplant service...Oncology is dynamite...numerous satellite clinics around those counties mentioned....a couple of dialysis centers local...I've been able to re-invent my career about every 10 years..and still haven't even scratched the surface of feeling like I'm ready to retire!!! administration is contantly trying to keep us solvent and fresh...and you're right in the heart of Texas....any easy day trip to Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and a little further to Houston or the beach at Port Aransas...plenty of nursing schools all around..good luck....
Be honest: do you work for HR? :rotfl:

Haha! That's exactly the sort of information I was interested in, topkat. THank you very much. And labcat, I didn't really mean out in the middle of nowhere, per se....(I knew that would get me in trouble). It's just that I'm in Austin, and well, it's...well, I will just stop now.
Thanks for all the info - I will definitely apply for the internship and see what develops!

Hi there!
I'm curious - does anyone know anything about Scott and White in Temple? I just spent a lot of time on their website because they offer some pretty good internships in Critical care/perioperative nursing.
But I can't figure it out - how is there a hospital that size, with a trauma center and a 40 bed NICU in the middle of nowhere?!? Is this a private clinic/hospital like Austin Heart? Is this the clinical site for A&M?
Has anyone had any experiences there that you'd like to share?
TIA,
Amanda
