What kind of scrubs do you wear in LTC?

Published

I am buying some new scrubs and I am torn on what to wear. I own both prints and solids, but I have recently been reading more about prints being unprofessional. In my opinon, in LTC prints are a conversation piece. I will have some residents who never say anything and then out of no where will say I used to have a cat (because I have cats on my shirt) and then I can have a conversation with them about there cat and you can see how happy it made them. So I am lean towards prints but would like some other peoples opinions. Thanks! =)

Hi, You really need to find out what your facility policy is. I have worked in severql facilities where nurses wore white, nursing assistants wore blue etc. I worked in one facility were the corporation designated teal as the corporation color, so just about everything was teal or had teal in it. Just ask.

Currently anything goes. Solids, or print scrubs. It is my experience in LTC that the resident's really enjoy the different prints. My facility wants to go with white pants for all nurses, so that the residents can easily identify the nurse. I can understand that, because right now many can not distinguish between dietary staff and nursing staff.

I can understand that reasoning at your facility. At the place I work at dietary wears white lab coats, as do the MDs, the NP and a handful of floor nurses. One nurse wears white head to toe and oddly enough many of the younger residents think she is a chef not a nurse. I've seen another facility where all the kitchen staff oddly enough was in white pants so maybe they have been there too.:lol2:

I think white might be respected by the current geriatric population but the younger residents (and we are getting A LOT of them) since we have skilled on one wing/LTC on another/infectious diseases on a third and so on like that, we are taking neuro injuries, trachs, TPN with younger and younger residents. They have 0 idea of who is what anymore regardless of colors especially if they have bounced around to diffferent facilities since the theme is different in each facility.

I know this lady whom was a excellent seamstress and used to make her own scrubs - she even made coordinating pants! Most of them were real cute, but reminded me of pajamas. She also got lots of comments from the residents.

1.navy blue top white pants (prn) 2. any top white pants (prn) 3. any thing goes even a dress down day on friday where you can wear street clothes (Yuck, I never dress down) I usually wear a combo of 1 and 2 at this place (ft).

Anything goes for us, so long as it's uniform/scrub material. I have tons of different outfits (I tend to vary between brightly colored solids, and print tops/solid pants) my patients and other residents always compliment my outfits.
