I have an associate degree and I was able to get a job in an ICU and an ER. If you're starting out, I would begin with patient care as many jobs seem to want nursing patient care.
However, I'd aim to get in with an electronic health record to help with implementations. When we put in EPIC, we had a bunch of people from the company come and basically live in the area for three weeks. They apparently travel around to help with launches. Some of the people did come from other hospitals that had implemented the EHR in our company but the majority were from the maker's company.

Nurse Informaticists are a hot commodity right now!!! My suggestion? Get your ANCC certification in Informatics ASAP. Informatics Nursing Certification Eligibility Criteria Even without a BSN, you're eligible because you have a Bachelor's degree in CIS. This will add a lot of value for job search in informatics. As PP said, there are jobs with EHR vendors, but most hospitals are also hiring NIs to provide ongoing support for their own systems.
Best of luck to you!
