What job can I do on probation?

Published

I can't give controlled meds for a year. I'm barred from home health, travel nursing, and a few other things. My only experience is bedside 4 years in LTC and 3 years in psychiatric nursing. Never been a supervisor, and a lot of the desk jobs want administration experience. The only job I'm sure I can do is dialysis, and I'm striking out with those jobs despite being told that I "interviewed well." I don't know where to go. I live in CT, and am willing to move but do not want to.

I'm in the Philly/PA area in the same situation.  Finding it hard to get hired.  It's soul destroying but I'm still hopeful.  Anyone know of PNAP friendly employers?  I'd welcome a referral.

When I entered my state's 5 year diversion program several years ago, I applied & was hired into a Case Management/your position. Initially, after thanking my lucky stars for getting a job, I had planned for it to be short-term until my narcotic stipulation was removed in 12 months. However, I loved the job & found it intellectually challenging without the fatigue of 12-13hrs running circles in the ED. 7 years later, I'm still in the same role just  expanded to a lead/charge type position.
I would've never switched from ED to this type of nursing position had I not been forced to leave ED. Although I wish I had made better choices 7 years ago, I'm grateful that the situation lead me to this job. I love it!

Hi, I have an interview for a case management role and I am also on probation. Did you have any problems having the BRN approve this role. how did the supervision stipulation work with this role. thank you

Hi kybeagle,

I've been interviewing for a lot of case manager roles and my RN license is also on probation. How does the supervision stipulation work? My job is going to be remote. How does the BRN expect I get supervised?

Most BONs and consent orders state the nurse must be supervised by another Nurse, not a Doctor. I've not heard of the BON wanting, "standardized protocols" from the employer. I'm not sure what a "standardized protocol" is. The BON wants the report on the nurse sent every quarter and they want to ensure the nurse is supervised and they want to ensure the employer is aware of the nurses background and that the employer has a copy of the nurses consent order.

Most BONS will NOT allow a nurse returning to practice/new to consent order to work remotely. They usually just will not allow you to work there, period. Thry almost always require Another Nurse be on site at the place you are working that can directly observe you and if those conditions aren't met, they will not let you work there

Does anyone know if Sutter hires nurses on probation?
