Hey there and welcome to the forum. The nursing supplies are a stethoscope, B/P cuff, EENT KIT,a mouth-to- mouth bag for CPR and that's all I can think of for now. The hospital will supply whatever you may need while on the job. However, the few things I mentioned above, I believe that you should have your own. Good luck!
hey thank you so much for your post!!! what part of miami are you from? are you a Rn or Lpn, student? hope to hear from you!!

Stethescope, penlight, bandage scissors, and plenty of pens come to mind. At the beginning of the shift, I grab a handful of alcohol wipes, red caps (to cap off IVs and fluids), tape, 2x2s, and some saline flushes. Other nice things to have are calipers (if you have tele on your floor) and hemestats. I feel pretty well set with these items.
I bring a folder to the nursing station on my shifts that has a copy of telephone numbers for the depts in my hospital, protocols that I use often (insulin, electrolyte replacement, etc), and the names/numbers of frequently called docs. Some of them belong to practices with several practitioners and it's nice to know which doc belongs to which group.

a willingness to work hard, learn something new every day, be a team player, put your patient's safety and well-being before anything else and of course.....
your smile!!!
i know this what not what you were asking but it is what i think the answer should be!
Hey there... ur certainly most welcome. I live in miami-dade county. I am an CNA student going for my LPN... I am currently taking the PN course at Robert Morgan Educational Center. Then I will graduate next year (yay! I'm a senior!) and continue finishing the program. I can't wait to become a LPN! Trust me, I don't bet that there are a lot of 17 yr old LPN's out there! btw, I was just wondering why you wanted to become an LPN/RN instead of continuing to work as a medical assistant?
i have been a medical assistant since 1997 and it was how i came to really love and learn medical stuff....but we are so restricted in doing things or learning. there is only so much we are able to do or better yet allowed to do and underpaid!! but i have always loved nursing!!!! you never stop learning in that field, wether it is patient wise or medical, never stop growing, always have a better job or salary opportunity around, in so many words it is such a big branch...you can go any direction you like. medical assistant you cant. plus i love to get hands on and med. asst. barely does that! how about you, from cna to LPN! by the way congratulations!!!
Hey NARCAN.. How r u? thanks for the congrats. yes, I agree with you on this one that nursing is a forever learning field. Nursing branches out into many areas. However, as the type of nurse one is; it is limiting... For instance, a CNA can only do the basics. An LPN can do more, but is limited becuase the LPN cannot do IV meds push or start oxygen. I don't like that as a nurse, we r so limited. As a medical assistant, u can't do much. Well, as I CNA (future LPN AND RN) I haven't starting working yet; the only expeirnece I got is thorugh clinicials which I will b starting in October... yay! I absolutely love Nursing and the various opportunites it has to offer! also, I can't wait to start working as an LPN. I love the satisfaction of helping a pt become better and to restore their level of functioning and QOL. good luck with everything... :balloons:

A lot of great replies have been posted.
But I didn't see anyone mention a bagged lunch! You may not get any time to go down to the cafeteria to purchase food, if you bring along a lunch and some snacks you'll be sure to be able to at least eat a quick snack :)
hey B-girl... ur right about that one.. I never even considered that! you can't go to work on an empty stomach esp. if the things nurses r going to see if going to make you vomit half of the time! LOL! :barf01:
