What If I Don't Make It In

Published

Hi,

I'm very concerned about my Nursing path right now and it's all my fault for not studying hard enough to get all the A's that I need. I am a second year student in college pursuing a BS in Nursing right now. Our college has a guarantee acceptance for those who declared Nursing as their major when applying to the school as long as you get a 3.0 in the required courses.

I'm worried right now-I'm afraid I won't get that 3.0 because of all the C's in A&P, STAT, and I'm not sure if I can get an A in Micro to balance anything out even though I earned some A's for other required courses. I'm so worried I will get kicked out of college and never be allowed to apply for Nursing again and be doomed to sweep the streets (do they even have people who do that anymore?) forever. I'm wondering if I do not get accepted into the Nursing Program, will I get a chance to take a year and retake the classes that I did poorly in, then apply again the next spring? I might make it in if my grades balance out but I'm still worried just in case I don't make it. :o Oh, what to do now!

Just a thought but if you had to, couldn't you retake the class for a better grade?

Calm down and relax. I am also taking the C in AP - but I am taking a couple classes to counter act it. I am only going for AD in Nursing, but because everyone else is in this town it is hard to get into the last science classes.

I am also using the trial and error method - writing down what works for me to study and also what doesn't so that when i do hit the nursing classes - my study skills will be better honed

Just a thought

i don't want this to sound too negative, but 3.0 is a pretty low gpa to be able to keep to be ensured a spot in your nursing school. a couple c's are understandable, but not being able to hold a 3.0? maybe you should retake the courses that you didn't quite grasp and try to get at least b's in. especially the a&p's, which i think are the basis of the nursing profession.

don't worry about it too much, but i think your school is being very lenient with you all. most schools base their acceptance off gpa and net scores only, making it hard to get in with out a gpa of at least 3.5.

good luck!

Of course, try to do better with your pre reqs but I want to give some words of encouragement because I heard of someone that got into nursing school here with a 2.7 average. They do pull people with high GPA's but they also pull like 5 of the lowest minimum averages to give everyone a chance. If I were you I would go see the academic counselor and get advice and encouragement. Make this next semester the best yet...study hard and maybe take only 3 classes to achieve high grades.

Good luck and best wishes. ;)

Thank you for all the encouragement and advice. I will probably end up having to retake the classes that I did poorly in if they allow it. I have already contacted the counselor at college, so I'm hoping she'll tell me my options.

I was and am thinking the same thing about how 3.0 is pretty easy compared to other schools' requirements. If I can't get good grades in these courses, then how am I to do anything in the Nursing Program? What a great failure. And I've never even heard of the NET's until you mention it. I'm guessing it's some sort of test you have to take like the SAT's? For here, I just need the 3.0 and declare Nursing in freshman year. I wonder if there are other universities or colleges that do not require the NET's.

I still have a chance with the final exams and then Mircro next semester, so I will be studying like crazy from now on after this great doom descending upon me. Thanks again for your help and guidance.

Maybe I figured my GPA wrong but isn't 3.0 a B average? I am making all B's and I thought I had a 3.0, maybe I just figured it wrong.

What really bites me is that all my B's are 88 - 89%, yeah my fault I know but still sooooo close but soooo far away!

You're right, a 3.0 is a B average. The grading scale is:

A 4.0

A- 3.7

B+ 3.33

B 3.0

B- 2.67

C+ 2.33

C 2.0

C- 1.67

D 1.0

F 0.0

That's pretty good already, I'm just sinking lower and lower, so now I have to shape up or else I will drown.
