Does anybody know if Georgetown still have the MSN for nurse education program anymore? Every time I go to the website and look it up, it says they are not currently accepting applications.

Hi, I work on a cardiac tele floor and have decided to study and take a certification exam and be certified. Not sure which one I should go for, anybody have taken both who can tell the difference. Was thinking of taking the med-surg one first and then go for PCCN, but then now I'm re-thinking and the PCCN might be better since a few of our nurses on the floor already have it and the hospital hosts once a year reviews for the PCCN. Which one do you think is more difficult? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Generally, most hospitals require at least 1 year nursing experience, especially for ICU positions. You've got the 6 + 7 months = 13 months so that's good. Also for you to get an interview is an even more promising sign, so I would advise you to go for the opportunity! And especially since these are rare opportunities and within your desired field! Ask what how long orientation will be, how much support you will be receiving, because that will be important once you are hired. Good luck!

Hello everyone, I would like to collect some opinions, experiences, ideas, anything you have to say about patient falls. Particularly if it has to do with patient and staff education. Just trying to gather some data on falls education and prevention interventions. If you can't think of anything, how about: Do you think educating staff about falls (interventions, how to use alarms properly and when to implement them) and also educate patient about falls are effective at reducing the falls rate? I agree with everyone. The wording could use some editing. Instead of an objective, discard that and replace it with a "Professional Summary." And then personalize it to fit the job position you are applying for. I applied to many positions and each time I did, I would change it around to fit what the job position. For example, for peds position, personalize it to highlight anything pediatric. If you are applying to a clinic position, highlight your volunteer at a low income clinic. Also try asking your professors to take a look and offer suggestions on how to make it better. Thank you for sharing and best of luck!

Hey, I know it feels bad, but don't ever give up! I actually got rejected from nursing school because my GPA was not good enough. I retook classes, reapplied, got in, passed all my classes, and passed boards first attempt. If I can do it, you will too! Try Kaplan because it helps you get into the mindframe of how to answer questions. Their strategies really help.

Hey guys, I took my board exam on July 6th, tried the PVT trick with the good pop up. Could not believe it! I got low scores on all my ATI practice tests that my school required us to do...and had to do a lot of remediation. Then I signed up for Kaplan on demand and studied for about 4 weeks. The question trainers and q bank were extremely helpful! I only got to 33% of q bank and 4 q trainers though. I also got 2/3 of the kaplan 2011-2012 review book done. My average score on the questions was 62% and was worried because I kept hearing people say to pass you need to consistently score 65% or higher. I never got past 63% so I was concerned, but kept doing questions consistently and prayed to God. Had many people prayed for me too, so I am grateful for that and feel like it was all God's work! I couldn't have done it without Him. I expected to get 265 questions, but it shut off at 75 questions and I thought that I had failed. But I got home, did the trick and got the good pop up. I called the BON this morning and was informed of my success, so the trick does work! I used Kaplan, ATI, and Saunders comprehensive review 5th edition. Found Kaplan the most helpful. I reviewed my content mostly by going through all the rationales of each answer to each question. I was one of those students who had a hard time with NCLEX style questions during nursing school, but through repeated exposure with God's help, I passed with 75, so i want to encourage everyone to do lots of questions consistently and pray hard! I'm sorry; it must be very stressful for you. I think you should try another area of nursing or another facility. Pediatrics might be a little easier because they're easier to lift if nobody is there to help you. I am a tech right now and have to deal with all the things you talked about but my unit has supportive staff with coworkers who always ask if I am doing okay, need any help...so it helps a lot. Maybe you should look into another hospital? Good luck with everything! As far as cleaning up diarrhea and stuff like that, if you think about how it helps the patient feel much better, relief, that should make you feel better.

Anyone notice that the required uniform is actually khaki scrub pants? Is this new because I remember all the previous students had white. I actually prefer white even though it's hard to keep clean among issues. The hunter green top remains, however.

Just got my acceptance letter on Monday--a few days ago. I wonder why they sent the letters out at different times. Those few weeks of waiting were the worst wait ever! I'm mostly concerned about the TEAS exam and how to pass it. As for the packet of information, I think they'll send it after July 10th since that's the deadline for replies. I guess they're waiting for everyone to respond and mail everything out then. Congratulations to everyone who got in. :cheers:

Thank you all very much for your very helpful responses, I appreciate it much. :) I am actually doing a BSN and will definitely retake Anatomy and Physiology again since this was the course that I didn't do great in. Not only will I need it to raise the GPA, but also to have a more firm grasp on the material as Jessiemiz said. I'm going to study my old notes and re-read the textbook (lucky I didn't throw them out and re-sell the book) and try to make it a little less difficult. Hopefully the second time around will be easier. Thanks again and have a great weekend.

received my letter of rejection from the nursing program at my university some weeks ago, spent one or two days in dark gloom and then convinced myself that all will be well. i have decided to not give up because i really want to do nursing, so i'm going to reapply for fall '09. but now i have a whole year and i need to remain a full time student so i went to my adviser and she suggested i do a minor in psychology since i have already taken 6 credits of psych...the minor requires 18 credit hours so maybe i should take psych courses for the whole year until i reapply again. what i wish to ask, if i may, is, for those who got rejected, what did you do while you wait...for example, did you try to get another degree or took more classes that might aid you with your future nursing job? i'm not sure if having a psychology minor will benefit me with my nursing career, but i really love psychology and i think it might complement nicely with nursing and i think i should give it a go. the other option is to take health science courses to get a better understanding of stuff and for more knowledge. any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks...wait, also congratulations to those who have received their acceptance letters--i'm happy for you all. hope you all have a great day

You're right, a 3.0 is a B average. The grading scale is: A 4.0 A- 3.7 B+ 3.33 B 3.0 B- 2.67 C+ 2.33 C 2.0 C- 1.67 D 1.0 F 0.0 That's pretty good already, I'm just sinking lower and lower, so now I have to shape up or else I will drown.

Thank you for all the encouragement and advice. I will probably end up having to retake the classes that I did poorly in if they allow it. I have already contacted the counselor at college, so I'm hoping she'll tell me my options. I was and am thinking the same thing about how 3.0 is pretty easy compared to other schools' requirements. If I can't get good grades in these courses, then how am I to do anything in the Nursing Program? What a great failure. And I've never even heard of the NET's until you mention it. I'm guessing it's some sort of test you have to take like the SAT's? For here, I just need the 3.0 and declare Nursing in freshman year. I wonder if there are other universities or colleges that do not require the NET's. I still have a chance with the final exams and then Mircro next semester, so I will be studying like crazy from now on after this great doom descending upon me. Hi, I'm very concerned about my Nursing path right now and it's all my fault for not studying hard enough to get all the A's that I need. I am a second year student in college pursuing a BS in Nursing right now. Our college has a guarantee acceptance for those who declared Nursing as their major when applying to the school as long as you get a 3.0 in the required courses. I'm worried right now-I'm afraid I won't get that 3.0 because of all the C's in A&P, STAT, and I'm not sure if I can get an A in Micro to balance anything out even though I earned some A's for other required courses. I'm so worried I will get kicked out of college and never be allowed to apply for Nursing again and be doomed to sweep the streets (do they even have people who do that anymore?) forever. I'm wondering if I do not get accepted into the Nursing Program, will I get a chance to take a year and retake the classes that I did poorly in, then apply again the next spring? I might make it in if my grades balance out but I'm still worried just in case I don't make it. Oh, what to do now!
