What should I do?

I need some advice!

I applied to a new grad program at a CA children's hospital a few weeks ago. A classmate applied a couple of days later, to the same unit (NICU). She got a call last Tuesday and has an interview this week. Our grades and qualifications are pretty similar, so I don't understand why I haven't gotten a phone call (yet). My classmate gave me the phone number of the person who called to set up her interview... My question is, should I be assertive and call to ask about the status of my application, or would that be considered rude?

This is my dream job, and I'm sure they're still looking at applications, as I haven't gotten a rejection letter, but I feel like I need answers STAT!

Call before another applicant gets the chance, ask for a tour of the facility, ask about volunteer opportunities while they make their decisions. Let them know this is the position you really want, not just one of many you sent out into the world. Employers are always skeptical of applicant's true intentions so I say let it be known that this is your position! Good luck :)

Thank you! I'm thinking the same thing! I like the part about asking for a tour! My parents think it's a bad idea to call, but I'm losing my mind just waiting for my phone to ring! Every time my phone shows that I have a new e-mail, it freaks me out because I think it's their rejection letter! I DO NOT want another rejection letter!!!

Mister Simba:

Camping out on a prospective employer's doorstep is always a prudent maneuver. It lets them know you're interested and proactive. If not, out of sight, out of mind. And, they're more likely to hire you, if for no other reason than just to get you off their doorstep.

Good luck to you, Mister Simba.

I'd call just to follow up! You need to sell yourself. They probably got a zillion apps so whatever you need to do to get your foot in the door, you do it! Just don't be too pushy. Best of luck to you!

You have for some reason not been selected. Maybe your friend has a contact that has opened the door for her and you don't have any "door openers". So, you have nothing to lose here, since you have not been called, actually the pressure is off of you because of that - so go for it.
