You don't need any experience to apply for nursing school. You may have to take additional courses (pre-requisites) before you can get into the actual nursing program though. You should speak with a counselor at your school and they will let you know what courses are necessary for your nursing program.
Thanks, so how much was your starting pay as an lvn? I am just trying to get some "ideas". Thanks for your reply. Steph:p

I'm not sure about the pay in Texas, but the starting pay in California ranges from $14-$18 depending on what city you're in. I have been an LVN for 2 years and I make $16.38 working night shift on a Labor & Delivery floor. The pay isn't all that great but it's okay for me considering I'm single and I don't have a family to support.
Sounds good to me because I am not out to get "rich", I just want to "live". Do you live in a small town? I do, so they probably pay less for beginners!! Thanks for your reply!

One of the bigger hospitals in Dallas is paying $12.78 for LVNs
with two years experience.
Why don't you try calling the hospitals and asking the
personnel/human resources department how much they
pay? That's how I got the info.

Well did you get in? I am going to the Comanche campus. I am sad I didn't see this until now!
I have heard all of those rates before but if you do enough shopping you can find upwards of 17 an hour. I know someone personally who is an LVN and and gets paid $19 per hr but she works in a cath lab. I only plan to stay an LVN for a few years while I work towards my ADN/RN because I have a kiddo to support. If it really mainly pays about 13 an hour I am going to be very disappointed. Because originally people were telling me 16-22
Keep in mind that this discussion was originally posted way back in 2004, which is why the pay rates are so low. I hope that the original poster has found an LVN program, gotten admitted, graduated, and found a job sometime during the past seven years.Well did you get in? I am going to the Comanche campus.
