I am a new college student and recently just changed my major over to pre-nursing because I got really interested in becoming a nurse. Now my biggest fear in following this career is what if I am not smart enough? I know it is very tuff to become a nurse and idk if I'm cut out for it. I was a regular student in high school with a few advanced classes here and there over the years I was mostly a B or C student because I didn't try. High school was a joke to me and very easy I know I should've taken it more seriously and I would've been able to get good grades. My question is can an average student become a nurse? Or do you have to be wildly intelligent? I know if I put my mind to something I can accomplish it but idk to what extent and how hard nursing school actually is. And another question is what if I graduate with my bsn and fail my nclex everytime? You can't do anything with a bsn until you pass that test. That is my biggest fear. What if I did all that work and spent all that money for nothing?

The more important questions are: What if you fly?
Look, school in general is hard. Nursing, teaching, business admin - it's all tough. If you think you can do it, try - if you fail, at least you know you gave it your best.
As far as the NCLEX - you learn how to take that test for two whole years. You'll be fine.

I think you are jumping the gun with your fears instead of approaching the situation one step at a time.
Yes, all of us might not succeed. That's the chance we all take when we immerse ourselves in a new schooling venture or career opportunity. However, you will never succeed if you do not even try to play the game.
Nursing is not extremely difficult. Anecdotally, I would say that the vast majority of nurses have average intelligence levels. It is the law of averages. Believe me when I say there are college majors with a higher degree of difficulty.
In other words, relax. Do not get ahead of yourself with the plethora of "what if" questions. If you think you cannot accomplish a feat, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in the context of subconsciously doing things to sabotage your goal.
Good luck to you!

I used to feel that way, too. But, what happens if you don't try and accept failure? Nothing worth having is going to come easy. Don't doubt yourself and work as hard as you can and it will come to you! Why stress over something that hasn't even happened yet? As for how hard nursing school is I can't tell you until January. But, you can do this!
