Since we do learn things every day :) and I learned a few in the past few days
-Someone can have a spo2 of 65 for 12 straight hours and not die.
-What the procedure is after someone dies. i've been a nurse for nearly a year, and this is my first off orientation death. (and of course, it had to be at 0815, right when teh day was getting going)
-what a malignant schwannoma is. a pt of mine had that, and a metastatic peripheral nerve sheath tumor and i was like....uh.....whats that? so i looked it up, and learned something new. apparently most schwannoma's aren't malignant. this one was
i was glad to learn something new to file away into the back of my brain for future reference

I was told that an lpn challenged the California board of nursing and passed to get her rn license. she did not have to go threw the school like the rest of us. i know she has to have a story behind this or this is false. does anyone else know anything about this? it seems that you can work in only california or work for the civil service and work anywhere. curious sr9145:cool:

I think this might be a rumor based on an originally true story. California does something unique in that it allows non-nurses with bedside experience (nursing assistants, etc) to challenge the NCLEX-PN exam (for the LVN license). They have to take a pharmacology course first and satisfy other experience requirements.
As far as I can tell, there's no short cut to RN in California.

an Sp02 of 65 for 12 hours? Was this person DNR and COPD? I'm sure the person lost a few neurons during that time...
