What if I dont get in?

Published

I just applied to the Nursing program at Daytona state hoping with every inch of me I get excepted. I have been working toward this dream forever! My GPA is 3.4 and teas was a 76 overall.

Background: I am married with a 3 yr old. We use to live on our own but last year we moved 3 hours away to live with my dad. So that I could concentrate on being a mom and full time student. My husband works and supports us. Though family my husband has a job offer waiting for him up north. Our plan is to move up there when I am done with school in 2 years. This brings me to my question...... what if I dont get in? Wait another 6 months here and see if I get in in fall? Or should we move? I finished my associate degree so I have no other classes to take. Just hoping I get excepted.

I like to plan ahead and hearing others opinions. Hoping and praying I get in so I won't have to decide to stay or move.

When does this current program start? Is it that one cohort starts soon and another in the fall?

If you don't get accepted, I think it'll depend on why as far as if you should try for fall semester (unless there's something you can do in the meantime to fix whatever it is that got you rejected in the first place).

How soon can you move if you don't get accepted? I'm wondering if you could look into schools in the area of where you're planning on moving to just in case. I don't know if it's too late for you to get accepted into other schools, but would you be able to defer a year if not?

Are there other programs in the area you can apply to?

If you're absolutely not able to get into this school, I'd check out other schools requirements and apply, whether or not they are in your current area or the area in which you plan to move.

The school I'm at now starts even Aug and then again in jan. We would move as soon as possible

If you don't get it, I think it'll depend on why. If it's something you can "fix" then maybe apply for the January admission. If you would need to move asap, it might even just be worth looking into programs in the area you're moving to and see if you can still apply and/or if they still have openings. I think it'll mostly come down to how quickly you're wanting to move and if you'd prefer to start your education in your new location or try again for the next cohort.

Unless you have only nursing classes to take for the nursing major, don't waste your time while you wait (if you have to)-- take a course towards distribution requirements, or even (looking WAY ahead) that you could apply to a MN later. You'll keep your mind in study/learning mode and give it something to look forward to relating to the rest of your studies.

First of all, I really hope you get in. We have both applied to the same program (Daytona State), so I hope to see you there!

I have been in contact with the Daytona advisers and from what it seems like, with a GPA like yours, it's almost certain that you will get in for next spring if you don't this time around. Just keep that in mind. and good luck!!

Let me put things into perspective. I applied 15 times to two programs consecutively for 8 semesters, and was finally accepted. Yes, it took me 4 years to get into nursing school. If you don't get accepted now, apply the very next time you're able to apply and keep applying until you're accepted. While you're waiting for acceptance, continue to take coursework that will benefit you down the road. If you're looking for a BSN program, for instance, take all the other coursework you'll need for graduation so that all you must do is complete the nursing "stuff" and upon completion of the program, you graduate or even possibly earn a 2nd Bachelors and maybe even be set up for entry to a MSN program.

The point is, if you're not accepted this time, try again and don't sit idle.

I plan to keep applying until I get in. Even if it is in another state. I already took all my classes for further bachelor degree. I'm at my limit.
