What if I can't afford a refresher course...?

Nurses Retired

I received my nursing license yesterday after five years of passing the nclex RN. Although the Board of Nursing told me it isn't mandatory I take a refressher course, I would feel more confident if I did. The problem is I cannot afford to take one. What are my other options? I was wondering if reviewing theory on my own from my class notes and some text books would suffice and also volunteering at a hospital and nursing home until I can find employment?

Bumping for a response!

I don't know, but I can only speculate...if you get hired maybe your hiring hospital will sponser you?

Did you pass the NCLEX 5 years ago, and just get your license now?

Yes I did!

Any suggestions on how to prepare for the workforce? I applied to work as a volunteer and I also began reviewing my lecture notes (fundamentals of nursing and med-surg nursing). I want to find a position in med-surg.

You can look into Vocational Rehabilitation for your state. I finally got them to pay for everything, but not without the assistance of the Disability Rights attorney's and two years of my life waiting. You might find out how to contact them located under you State government offices. Good Luck! FLTNRSE2
