Hello,
I am brand new to this forum/web site and would like to know if there are any hospitals, doctor's offices, etc. that would be willing to pay for my nursing degree in exchange for a contract that would bind me to them for a length of time, such as 1-3 years? I have heard that this was somewhat common in the past, but I would really love to talk to someone who has had experience with this.
I have been in sales for the past 12 years and have always had the desire to become a nurse. If there is anyone out there in the Atlanta, Ga. area who could be of help to me, please let me know. Thank you for your time in answering.\\

I can't answer specifically for GA, but the practice is still quite common for hospitals. However, and it's a BIG however, there's usually a steep price to pay for such an arrangement.
Usually, a hospital that is willing to foot the bill for a nursing student in exchange for a number of years of indentured servitude does so because it cannot attract or retain the nurses it actually needs (and desires). It does this arrangement because it's grasping at the newbie, hoping you'll sign such a committment before finding out what working there is all about.
There's always the exception to the rule, of course, but you'll have to do your homework VERY well to see if you've got one of those exceptions in your region.
Be very careful. There's no such thing as a free ride, please believe. A commitment to a job for a few years might sound fine in exchange for the tuition, books, etc, but you also might very well find yourself realizing you'd made a deal with the devil!

Hi. I don't know of any hospitals who will pay your way through school for a commitment. I do know you can contract with some hospitals after you graduate; they will pay off your student loans in exchange for a contract. Is this what you were asking?
usually a...???
Oh, I see. Thank you 3 very much. It does make sense. I will be very careful. I will be talking to a dr. friend of mine tomorrow to see what he can do. Thanks again.
