I was recently approached by a home healthcare company looking to start franchising their brand. I've been an ICU nurse now for 4 years and feel very comfortable at the bedside, but the dollars they started talking would get anyone excited. They also said they would market their franchise exclusively to nurses which seemed interesting.
Has anyone had any experience with franchises or owning a franchise?
Any questions I should be asking?
What would you need to be convinced to do this?
Any help y'all can give would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have much to offer. I love to listen to radio talk shows and happened to hear an interview by a local consumer advice advocate talking to a man who was part of a similar sounding franchise. He was a pharmacist, his wife was a nurse. He was stressing how even though he and his wife kind of "knew" a lot about the "business" he was really glad to pay the franchise to help with scheduling staff, etc., ....and said they had (I think) once a day conference calls with headquarters and fellow "franchisers" to talk about their business, problem solve, etc. A lot of support from the parent company. It really sounded excellent, well organized, and something the with a good future.
I would certainly get a lot of information, written and signed by you and the company, about their plan, what you would do, how much support they would be giving you etc. And even have a lawyer or CPA, or tax adviser look it over?

Anyone selling franchises is going to make it appear to be financially appealing. The truth is that you will be competing with others in your market. Unless your market is underserved, or you are creating a new services market, money is not going to rain down. You may be able to compete quite successfully, just be aware that there are few quick pathways to wealth.

No matter how good a franchise is, it still requires the franchisee to go out and market, develop contacts, and make the sales.
