I know UF is extremely competitive just in general.I looked on their nursing site and it says you should have a 3.3 by the time you apply if you're already at UF.Since I will be a transfer student applying what would be a competitive gpa to have by the time I apply?Right now (my first semester) I had a 2.75 due to not passing college algebra.I will be taking a class in the summer.Anyways,if possible can you kind of give me a map of what i should have for gpa?
ex:
fall 09:2.75
spring 10:so and so
summer 10:______
fall 10:_________(is this when i start applying for nursing fall '11?)
spring 11:________
Thanks in advance!!!!

You don't need to do a "gpa map" to make things difficult, just get the best grades you can. That 2.75 is going to hurt but with hard work, a 3.3 is very much do-able. I would aim for a 3.5 to be safe. Make sure you do well in classes such as A&P, chem, micro, and whatever class thats most relevant to nursing because nursing classes build up on that knowledge.

From personal experience I can tell you that my school does not look any other factors except your GPA for admission.
If you go on the schools website, it tells you that you will need a minimum of a 2.0 GPA for admission. Due to the competitiveness of the program, the current cut off for admission is 3.7.
This GPA is cumulative, not just Sciences and Math like some schools. This school is extremely competitive due to the low cost of the program. Most students in this school just get a A.S. in Nursing and then proceed to other universities to complete their BSN. I hope this info helps, keep up the good work and you will succeed. Currently, I have a 4.0 GPA and have 2 classes left before I'm accepted into the program.

Here is a quick version of a spreadsheet I did up to track my own GPA. Just put in the amount of credits a class is worth and your grade in the 4.0 scale. It multiplies the two to get the quality points. Quality Points divided by total number of credits will give you your overall GPA.
I am obsessive when it comes to my grades and keep track of them constantly. I had a scare with Algebra and whenever I was feeling down, I would punch in my potential grade and see what it would do to my GPA. It took away the sting when I realized it wasn't going to hurt me *too* badly. Luckily I did OK.
I have my own copy divided into semesters with my class names already planned and entered. I also highlight the rows when I am finished... there are more colored rows now than plain ones - hooray!! Then, when it times to play around its fairly easy. I hope that comes in handy. You can also play with the numbers and see what you need to get to bring up that overall GPA.
I hope this helps. :)

PS.... if you want to see mine, with it all filled out, I can post it as well.
