What are some good things to keep on hand in your work locker?

Hi everyone,

After graduating in May, and passing NCLEX in June, I finally got a call yesterday that I was offered a job! I am very excited and nervous about it. It's for an Obstetrics full time nights position, but this post doesn't have to revolve specifically around OB. what are some things that you all keep in your work locker for 'just in case' scenarios, everyday use, etc. I've ears things like chapstick, and a travel toothbrush/paste for when you have to work overtime. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

CONGRATS on the new job!!! :)

Change of clothes, fresh undergarments (one time a bunch of nurses had to stay extra shifts due to a blizzard and had to wear the super uncomfortable hospital mesh underwear...ick), shoes, chapstick, brush, pony tail, toothbrush/toothpaste, money/change, snacks, pens, highlighters, Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen, tampons, makeup (if you wear it), and a cell charger.

Wow! I am a new grad about to start my first RN job too and I'm LOVIN' this list!! Thanks everyone! Now, I just hope I get a locker.

I work OR, so:

-two pairs of extra scrubs. Laundry seems to never stock by the time I come in, especially on Mondays, and then there's the splash factor plus getting a call in the middle of the night

-extra socks, in case I wear flip flops in and forget to bring some, also for the splash factor

-extra shoes

-gum, gum, and more gum. I am the gum supplier for the entire team (I'd be rich if I actually charged them for it- premium markup of course)

-painkillers of some type

-scrub hats (at least until they force us to wear only disposable- it's the only way to be an individual in the sea of blue scrubs)

-hairbrush, hair ties, deodorant, tampons/pads, extra contacts

-pens, pens, pens. Surgeons never seem to have a pen on them- and then they walk away with the one they "borrowed"
