What was your experince at Broward College nursing program ?

Quick questions to all current and grad nursing students at BC....How was you experience (teachers, the program, facility, etc)and please be as honest as possible....thank you

You are probably going to get a lot of negative responses in this thread because this is a tough program. Others experiences, however, are not irrelevant. Try not to get caught up in trouble that others experiences b/c it can become overwhelming. If you are in the program, I think it is more important to know how to be successful in each course.

Focus on one class at a time, follow directions, do as you are told, study, read, work on your critical thinking and test taking skills, and you'll be fine.

Just my :twocents:!

so this is probally a dumb question but I ofetn hear people talk about critical thinking, what are some examples of critical thinking in the nursing program....and how do you organize yourself throughout the prgram and how do you study ?

not a dumb question at all. it's actually hard for me to explain. i would have to say that the information presented in the program and the text are black and white. but, the test are gray. they'll give you an absolute set of rules, but the test may require you to break a rule. you have to be able to think outside of the box. evaluate the client and senerio holisticly without over thinking.

btw: in this field, never be afraid to ask a question. it could save a life.

thank you..so much for your help

hello leaveteaching I am currently a student at BC north taking Gigu do you have any pointers as how to properly navigate that class to gain the optimum grade out of it.Do you think I should focus on slides offered by the Prof or more emphasis on the textbook?

Know everything about everything she mentions in class. So, know the notes and know everything in the book about the material covered in class. If she mentions a disease, test, drug in lecture or the notes, be sure to read about it in the book. However, skip the topics in the book that are covered in lecture or the notes.

If she still gives the attendance point, go to class everyday. One point can make a difference.

Ask her questions if you aren't sure what material you should study for the test. It is usually best to speak with her one on one after class. However, your class is very large. So, it may be difficult to get face time.

Good luck!

I'm sorry... you said skip the topics in the book that she covered in lecture or her notes or things that she did not cover??? I;m concerned about this test too. It's so much nformation and her lectures are not specific at all (very elementary). Seems to easy if its just on what she lectures. Please advise.

some sections in the chapters assigned include diseases not covered in this course. if it is not in the notes or lecture, you may not need to read it, but clarify it with her. for example, when you get to endocrine, you don't read thyroid or parathyroid b/c it is covered in cardio.

to be quite honest, the experience at BC was ok.

I cannot say that the prof. are all nice and dandy, or that everything is fair--- because it wasn't....

but as long as you pass your courses, you study, you put your mind and heart into your studies, you will be successfull.

I have been an RN for two years now, and when I started working, I actually was not afraid of doing skills such as catheterization, phlebotomy, injections-- etc. I felt so comfortable, and I knew that i was not going to fail. I follow the rules as stated on the protocol of the hospital, and I guess-- I see the light at the end of the tunel.

I like the price of BC too, no student loans for me,!

Hi Bumblebee,

Thanks for the well wishes. It's good to hear that you're doing well as well. Are you still at FIU for your BSN?

I recently graduated from BC. I'm taking my boards at the end of this month. Any advice??

I'm also looking for a job. A few of my classmates were able to land jobs before they took their boards, but the job market is hell right now for new grads.
