What to expect after a tubal

I am due next month, my previously scheduled c-section has changed and now I will be delivering lady partslly, I am to have a tubal the morning after I give birth. Can you tell me what to expect in the healing process (and maybe give me some advice as to what to do to speed it along)? They will go through my belly button to do this.

Thanks

BTW,

I am a nursing student and am interested in working in L&D after graduation.

Thanks again

I don't know the answer to that because I had mine immediately following my c-section, but didn't your doctor or nurse tell you what to expect? I had a laproscopy a few years ago, and I remember being sore for a couple of days following it.

Congrats on your sweet expected arrival! :kiss

When I had mine, I was back to work within a couple days. Only took a day and a half off. Wasn't really sore at all. Maybe some mild tenderness at the incision but other than that--it was great!! I've had more pain from tooth extractions!

Good wishes for you and your family. That said, it is a simple procedure , called bandaid surgery. The same 2 somethings or one percocet you will be taking post partum, will cover your discomfort from your belly button.

If you want to be technical read up on laporoscpic surgery and the post op expectations. Bottom line, your post delivery instructions should really cover it all. My niece told me that it hurt for a day or two, she just had twins.

The discomfort associated with a tubal varies some. Having one right after delivery is generally more uncomfortable than it would be at 6 weeks postpartum. That is because the uterus is trying to contract at the same time there is a small incision trying to heal. Ice to the incisional area and motrin for pain helps with pain and swelling quite nicely. (Some patients don't care for the ice, because of the uterine cramping, but some love it.) You may require a couple of doses of Percocet initially. You should be up to void within a few hours post-op and go home the same day if you like. Tenderness should fade within a couple of days to a week.

My OB talked me out of tubal ligation twice! and I have 4 children, & 36yo. We are done done done. I dont know what her REAL reservations were, but she told me her pts say they 'did NOT expect that much pain afterward' (I still wanted it done post op) plus, the emotional side of ending fertility (like I would be sad? um, no) so then I waited the 6 weeks and then she said, anesthesia might cancel 'an elective' procedure if my platelets were low (as they are only in pregnancy, and not as low my last pregnancy) She really gave the talk to my husband re: vasectomy. Didnt work.... so, the way I see it, if I want it done, I need to find another doc. I would have it done. (But thats me) Sounds like the previous posters are most of what Ive heard from random people.

I got pregnant 4 years later, and delivered 12 wks early!

Most of my pts. seem to c/o feeling "gassy". We give them Motrin or Vicodin.

I had my done outpatient when my youngest was a year old. Going under kicked my behind more than the procedure itself. Didn't take anything stronger than Tylenol for the pain.

Best Wishes!
