What to Expect Orientation and First Semester MANE

Published

I am getting ready for orientation at ARCC on July 8th and then the 17th at Cambridge. Does anyone have info on what supplies we will need for school. Other than the book list I am pretty much in the dark and it doesn't seem that we'll get any of that info until after the orientation, sucky thing being the expo is the morning of and before orientation starts. So I'm sure I know the obvious, uniforms, blood pressure cuff??, stethoscope, but what else? is anyone else attending? Also does anyone know if we are allowed to use an electronic stethoscope? (I was given a really nice one as a gift). Any info or thoughts are appreciated.

I don't go to ARCC but I do go to a MANE school and we needed:

Stethoscope (I got a Littmann Classic SE on Amazon for $20 cheaper than what the school offered)

Bandage scissors (Amazon)

Wrist watch with a sweeping second hand (Amazon...see a pattern here?)

Penlights (I got a 6 pack for like, $5 on Amazon)

That's all I can remember to be honest.

I don't go to ARCC either. But my list from orientation included:

-watch with a second hand

-stethoscope (Littmann Classic ii se recommended)

-black pens

-bp cuff (optional)

-scrubs

-student patches for scrubs

-all white shoes (this probably depends on your school and uniform color)

The other supplies they expect us to have are apparently supposed to be purchased through the school as part of a kit. But again, it's likely ARCC has different expectations too.

Hope this his helps atleast a little bit!

Otherwise, I've been looking for a good planner, and slowly collecting school supplies like notecards and organizational stuff, so I don't have to buy it all at one time. I've also bought cheap study aids (the Davis success series mostly) whenever I come across gently used ones for under 10 bucks online.

Good luck and congrats on you're acceptance!!!

I'm going into 5th semester at ARCC... All I've used thus far is my stethoscope (use whatever kind you'd like..), a pen light for neuro assessment, and my scrubs (black pants & either black or white shoes for ARCC, you'll need to buy a custom scrub top). I'd recommend getting a watch with a second hand, I've yet to get one. I'd recommend DDG going into chronic/palliative care.

I wouldn't recommend buying a B.P. cuff. You won't need it since they are in the lab. You probably won't use it after you do your vitals checkoff.

Let me know if you have any questions, and congrats on getting into nursing school.
