Hi everyone im a senior and want to be a nurse either with a as or bs i have a couple of questions first off I didn't do good my first two years of high school but now I am getting A's and B's I'm not too sure of what college I should go to I'm thinking about Chaffey, RCC, West Coast University or csu.

I want to know if I'm able to go to RCC and graduate for my classes there and than switch to a program? Which college would you recommend in which program would you recommend?

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Do NOT even consider West Coast University. No degree is worth $130,000! If you are one of those high school kids who is perhaps the first to go to college in your family- do you have an adult who HAS navigated college for themselves or their kids who might mentor you trough this process?

With the recent closure of ITT Tech- it is vitally important that you have someone familiar with the system helping you. PLEASE do not navigate this alone!

None of my family have graduated from college :( i just wanted to see what others experiences are that could help me out. Thank you for telling me about wcu i wasnt aware of that.

In general, it makes sense to start out at your local community college. You can complete a nursing program there, or transfer to a BSN program after completing your prerequisite courses at the comm college and saving money. A community college is also a good choice because they usually have a wider selection of preparatory classes to help you with any academic deficiencies, such as study skills, math, and English.

Rose1212,

Try checking out (collegescorecard.ed.gov). You can look at most of the colleges there.

Stay away from, like the plague, the for-profit schools.

You will see that they across the board are very expensive, have poor graduation and retention rates and based on this poor performance nothing but cleaverly devised loan generating operations.

If you want to be a nurse, take the prerequisites at a community college and the transfer to a reputable nursing school you can be proud to say you've attended.

Yes, ask lots of questions, and ask others what the good questions are, and run rings around the deceivers because today nursing school is big business.

Shopping schools is like shopping fotr anything. You want to get the best quality at the least expensive price.

Agree about WCU.... those programs are designed to make money not to produce quality nurses. I live in southern Cali. I believe going to a CC and transferring to a BSN program is the best option. Look into the program you want to get into and find out way ahead of time what the requirements are to get in and what things you can do to help your chances. Some will give preference to applicants from a particular CC, those with a job in healthcare, volunteer work or good grades. Start early to be sure you are exactly what they are looking for.
