What classes do I have to take to become a RN?

Published

I am just graduating high school and just starting college. I have already taken Psych. 101 and 102 and English 101. Do I have to take English 102 also?

The best way to find this out is to make an appointment with the nursing program you want to attend. Each school has specific requirements. Mine did not require any Psychology, but it did require somel english classes.

Each program is different, so please, rather than rely on us, make an appointment with the program you want to attend.

All programs seem to require:

One chemistry class

Biology 101

Anatomy and Physiology

Microbiology (only some)

some want statistics

And if you want to get a BSN- you have to meet all the schools regular requirements to graduate (like foreign language etc)/

This post might get better replies if moved to the nursing student section?

The only way you can know this is to look at the college catalog of the nursing school you are planning to go to. It will tell you specifically how much English or Psychology you need. In my case, I needed a whole year of English Composition, Intro. to Psych. and Growth and Development which is a psych class. If you are thinking of getting a BSN you need to deal with any problems you are having with English because most BSN programs require a lot of writing of papers. You are probably going to need a class in Speech as well since one of the things a nurse does is teach things to patients and other nurses. My BSN program also required we take a year of a foreign language, but, you see, that was a specific requirement of the school I went to and not necessarily the same in other schools.

Each school is different. The Prerequisites that I have to take are:

Mat 070 - College Algebra

Cis 110 - Introduction to Computers

Eng 111 - Expository Writing

Eng 115 - Oral Communication

Psy 150 - General Psychology

Psy 241 - Developmental Psychology

Bio 165 - Anatomy and Physiology I

Bio 166 - Anatomy and Physiology II

Thankfully, I've taken Mat 070 (I'm in it right now...finish in a few weeks), Eng 111, Cis 110, and Eng 111. I willbe taking Psy 241 this spring. Was hoping to get more courses, but they're already filled. The students that have already been accepted into a program get them first. That's ok though because I'm not in a rush. I had planned on going for LPN, but decided that I'll just take my time and go the whole way. Hopefully I can get in the program next Fall.

Depends what degree you are pursuing. Make an appointment with your guidance counselor for the 411. :)
