What is your charge nurse like?

Published

I think my charge nurse is the most amazing woman ever. She is brilliant, patient, helpful, hard-working, and just an all-round amazing woman.

Just the other day she gave everyone a little card with a personalized note telling us we were doing a good job.

I actually look forward to working when she is in charge. I have learned so much from her and she inspires me - I want to be just like her, haha.

I am a new grad and I do believe that having her as my charge nurse has made my transition from school to work so pleasant.

Tell me about your main charge nurse.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

I am just a student doing my final consolidation hours but I have had the good fortune of working with a charge nurse that is just as terrific. This woman is kind and funny and very smart. She treats everyone with respect and is not afraid to pitch in when we are busy. She goes out of her way to talk to families and usually deals with problems with no fuss or attitude. Truly an inspiration to new nurses.

Specializes in Corrections, neurology, dialysis.

I was in clinical today with a charge nurse that I would love to work for. She is smart, experienced, knowledgable and truly helpful. It was fascinating to watch her juggle multiple situations and deal with problems like she was flicking a gnat off her shoulder. She never got flustered. She was calm, efficient and professional. I want to be her when I grow up! She was truly an inspiration.

Thats terrific you have charge nurses you look up to. I wish I could say the same but I cannot. Ours has as much tact as a rock and is as helpful.

She is defensive and difficult to talk to. She minimizes our strengths and maximizes and calls much attention to our deficits. Not my favorite. We really love when she is on vacation though.

Specializes in Staff nurse.

Our floor's night charges are pretty wonderful...fair-minded when it comes to assignments, helpful and fun, too. Esp. since I don't want to do charge...
