I think yes, I am also in NY. b4 getting my lic I was told by a potential employer(Pathways to Housing) that I would be able to work as a paid intraship or externship not sure can't remember which terminology she used but I think it had to do with the temp lic you mentioned.
God Speed in your job search;)
You can work on a temporary license until you pass the test. You would be working as a GPN, and would work directly under the supervision of an RN. In my state, the RN must be in the building though for a GPN to work on the floor. (as opposed to being reached by phone) I think my starting pay was a bit lower too, but as soon as i passed the state boards, they bumped my pay up and helped me celebrate too! It was a great experience for me, and I would recommend working on a temp license till you can take your test. Good Luck to you!
Im in PA and our board is quite strict compared to many states, but however with that I was able to FXN as a LPN with the exception of verbal orders and I had to have a licensed nurse sign off on the narcotics I was administering. Many places will hire you as a GPN I actually made more money at the first place I worked as a GPN then the first place I worked with a license.

Hello all
I would like to know if anyone know if there are any places that hire graduate LVN still waiting to take there NCLEX? I'm applying in NY and there is also a limited license application that is good pending results of your first NCLEX attempt. It's void if you fail.
I've never heard of anyone being hired. Is it useful or just a waste?
Thank you in advance
