What is the Best Hospital to work as RN in Houston

Published

Could you recommend any hospitals in Houston for a progressive care nurse with 7yr nursing experience that is hiring.

Also could you give me a ballpark of hourly pay. Do they offer night differentials?

Thank you so much for your help.

That question can not be answered here.

Your best may not be my best. I work with nurses that hate the place, I love it.

Houston is a huge area and your looking at 40+ hospitals in the greater Houston area.

Methodist, St Luke's, Tenet, Texas Children's, Memorial Hermann, HCA and Christus all have multiple locations, all with pros and cons. You have several very large independent facilities (MD Anderson, The VA, Shriners) that may have 1 or 2 satellite facilities.

Your pay will vary greatly by Employer and even by actual facility location. I would say a minimum of $25/hr at the lowest, and up to $35 at the highest (Methodist if you have a BSN may be more).

I don't know of many (if any) that don't offer shift diff for nights and weekends. The amount varies by facility, but they all have it as far as I have heard.

In addition, there are some external factors that will have an effect on one's impression of "best place". In Houston, your commuting time can have a huge effect. Even the best job can lose its luster when you have to spend 90 minutes in traffic to get there and back. Parking can be a hassle also, especially if you have to park remotely and ride a shuttle or pay $$ for "onsite" parking.

Benefits can make a real difference - including the 'official' (HR) ones as well as the 'incidentals'. For instance, there are benefits (educational resources & networking) associated with working in the Texas Medical Center that may offset the parking hassles.

So true. Even the opposite can be true, a short easy commute can make up for an OK workplace.

For me, I love where I work, and being only 3 miles from it even makes it that much better. I work with a few that are not crazy about working there, but stay because of the easy commute.

It takes me longer to walk from the parking lot and take an elevator to the floor than it does to drive from my house to the parking lot (free parking too).
