What to do when you do bad on pre-req assignments

I had 66% in my English 1301 class. And we had a quiz due today. So I went to the library and took the quiz. I took my time and looked thoroughly for the answers. I found them all and thought I was going to make at least a B on the quiz. Well I submitted the quiz and I only made a 58%. That dropped my English grade 6 points, so now I only have a 60%. I'm just bummed out that I did so badly on the quiz. I thought I would do better. Not to mention I have the class today. That just adds salt to wound.

What do you do when things like this happen to you?

For me, I cannot fail. I work very hard at all of my classes. I don't know how old you are but one thing I have noticed is the older I have gotten, the better study habits I have. I study a lot so I don't fail. I in no way, shape, or form had these kind of study habits when I was a teenager. I am now trying to instill what I have learned about studying and homework into my 7 year old. Make sure you have good study habits and study harder for the next quiz or test. If you need it, ask about tutoring. My school offers free tutoring if you need it.

If something like that happens (and it has to me!), I tend to take it as a sign I'm not studying properly, kind of like the previous reply says. Tutoring is a great option when you don't understand the material or haven't found a really productive way of studying.

I tend to think I understand something and then bomb a quiz, which is what it sounds like might be your problem. Looking for tutoring options might be helpful since you'll have someone there who knows the material and can test whether you really get it or not.

I would start visiting the professor regularly during their office hours and take advantage of any tutoring your school offers. Ask classmates who are doing well how they study.

This happened to me and I got 77% on my micro test. Im pretty distraught and sad.

If this was me, I would reevaluate my approach. It seems like the study methods you are using now are not giving you the outcomes you want so you need to find a different way to learn the material. Take more time to study the material and really understand it. Meet with your instructor and ask for help, they may be able to give you extra tips and outside resources to help you that you otherwise wouldn't receive. Find a tutor, or find a study partner in your class with a different learning style than you: sometimes hear and seeing the subject from a different point of view will give you that needed spark. But most of all, study study study! Don't try and skim by. Ideally, you should be able to read a quiz question and already have the answer before ever having to go and look for it. It takes a lot of work but it will be so worth it when you succeed. Good luck!
